Sanchez Announces Bid For US Senate
Former Army Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez is running for the U.S. Senate and says he can be a voice for the country’s poor and middle class.
Sanchez is running as a Democrat for seat being vacated by Republican Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison. He spoke Tuesday in Austin at an event promoting education and scholarships for Hispanics.
Sanchez grew up poor in the Rio Grande Valley and rose through the ranks to become the commander of coalition forces in Iraq. He retired from the military in 2006.
As someone who grew up in poverty, Sanchez says he understands the daily economic and social pressures facing the poor every day.
