UPDATE: Toddler Found In Bucket Of Water Expected To Recover

A 15-month-old girl who was hospitalized after being found facedown in a bucket of water is breathing on her own ans is expected to recover, authorities said.

Emergency crews were dispatched about 10 a.m. Wednesday to a home in the 6600 block of Prairie Dog Road, where the grandfather of the girl said he found her facedown in a bucket of water left for the dog in a fenced-off part of the yard.

Deputies said the girl and an older sibling, who were in the care of their grandparents, were playing in an area that is not normally accessible to the children. The grandfather immediately performed CPR until the arrival of emergency crews, who found that the child was unresponsive but had a pulse. She was taken to an area hospital.

Dona Ana Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kelly Jameson said the near-drowning was determined to be an accident, but an investigation is ongoing. Sheriff’s investigators said they found no criminal evidence.
