NMSU Baseball Hitter Mannequin Reported Stolen
The New Mexico State baseball team is looking for one of its top sluggers — a 6-foot-tall barefoot mannequin wearing a gray Yankees uniform.
Police said an Aggie player noticed Friday that the mannequin, which is modeled after a baseball player holding a bat and standing at home plate for pitching practice, was missing from the NMSU baseball practice field. The batter is paired with a “catcher” mannequin that was not taken.
Las Cruces Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest in the theft of the dummy. The mannequin is black, about 6 feet tall and was wearing a gray New York Yankees uniform. The mannequin’s stand and baseball cleats were left behind.
The pitching practice mannequin is valued at about $4,000, but because it is only sold in pairs — hitter and catcher — the cost to replace both pieces of equipment could be $16,000.
If you have any information on who may be responsible for this theft, or the whereabouts of the stolen mannequin, you are asked to call Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (8477) or send a tip via text message to LCTIPS (528477). The Crime Stoppers number and text messaging services are operational 24 hours a day, and you do not have to give your name to collect a reward.
