Holloman Announces Return Of Sonic Booms In Area
As Holloman Air Force Base’s F-22 flying operations resume, base officials are warning nearby residents of the possibility of a periodic sonic boom during the next two weeks.
Officials said sonic booms could occur: ? Thursday, Sept. 22: 7:30-9:30 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.
? Friday, Sept. 23: 7:30-9:30 a.m. and 1-3:30 p.m.
? Monday, Sept. 26: 8-10:30 a.m. and 12:30-2:30 p.m.
? Tuesday, Sept. 27: 8-10:30 a.m. and 12:30-2:30 p.m.
? Wednesday, Sept. 28: 8-10:30 a.m. and 12:30-2:30 p.m.
? Thursday, Sept. 29: 8-10:30 a.m. and 12:30-2:30 p.m.
? Friday, Sept. 30: 8-10:30 a.m. and 12:30-2:30 p.m.
? Saturday, Oct. 1: 8-noon, and 2-4 p.m.
Schedules can change based on a variety of reasons and scheduled times do not always mean sonic booms will occur.
Officials said the return to F-22 flying operations comes after the commander of Air Combat Command, which is Holloman’s major command, directed a stand-down of the fleet in May as a safety precaution after 12 separate reported incidents in which pilots experienced hypoxia-like symptoms.
