A man who pleaded guilty to murder in the death of a 7-month-old girl was sentenced to 30 years in prison and five years of probation after he is released.

Thirty-year-old Thelton Andres Riley, Jr., pleaded guilty to murder in front of U.S District Judge Frank Montalvo on May 11.

The mother of the child, Leesa Trujillo, 31, on May 11 pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and injury to a child in the Aug. 10, 2009, death of her child at Fort Bliss. Montalvo sentenced Trujillo to 10 years in prison and four years of probation.

According to court documents, Riley and Trujillo admitted that while living on the Laguna Indian Reservation in New Mexico in June 2009, they engaged in a pattern of child abuse, which resulted in the child having a broken arm, broken legs and several broken ribs.

Records show that Riley and Trujillo took the child to Fort Bliss so that Riley could receive medical treatment at Beaumont Army Medical Center. Riley and Trujillo admitted that they never sought medical attention and instead, Riley gave the child Oxycodone and hydrocodone to keep the child quiet.
