UTEP Cuts ‘Surgical Glove’ Ribbon On New Nursing School
The University of Texas at El Paso cut a surgical gloved-covered ribbon on its new Health Science and Nursing building on Thursday afternoon.
Following the ceremony, ABC-7 was invited inside the $60 million facility, loaded with state-of-the-art medical equipment to train much-needed nurses and health professionals for the borderland.
El Paso has been federally designated as a “medically under served” community.
The new building, which university officials said can accommodate roughly 3,000 students and faculty, is also home to research facilities.
More research has been at the forefront of UTEP’s plans for the future.
“Every crane and cement mixer and barricade that we’ve been maneuvering around reminds us of the huge progress we’ve made toward the goal of fulfilling our ‘national research university’ aspirations,” said UTEP President Dr. Diana Natalicio.
Social work graduate student Evelyn Frausto had no complaints about her sleek, new learning environment Thursday afternoon.
“It’s better equipped for all the students,” she said. “It’s big. It’s nice, I like it.”
