Police Identify Man Involved In Deadly Wreck

A man was killed in a rollover wreck Tuesday night around 8:30 p.m. in east-central El Paso, near the airport.

Police identify the driver as 21-year-old Tyon Smith.

Special Traffic Investigators say Smith was westbound on Founders, approaching a curve in the street when he hit a dirt berm.

The impact caused the 2007 Dodge pick-up truck to rollover, ejecting Smith. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The 21-year-old was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Investigators say speed, alcohol and failure to wear a seatbelt were all factors in the wreck.

Police say this is the city’s 49th traffic related fatality.
