Three Accused In Extortion of Juarez Man In Sunland Park, N.M.
The Sunland Park Police Department arrested three men after an investigation into the alleged extortion of a Juarez resident while in Sunland Park.
The victim informed police that he was doing business in Sunland Park when he was robbed, investigators said. The victim told police he was told that if he did not pay $10,000, he would be killed in Juarez. The victim was ordered to pay the money several times.
Police said two of the subjects were identified as Barrio Azteca gang members.
Sunland Park detectives, along with a New Mexico State Police and FBI gang task force, conducted an investigation, and warrants were issued for the arrest of Rogelio Arzate, 59, Rogelio Arzate Amos, 34, and Abraham Arzate, 22, who all live at 2065 McNutt Road in Sunland Park. The three men were arrested on suspicion of extortion, robbery and conspiracy.
With the assistance of the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Special Response Team, Las Cruces and El Paso U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, New Mexico State Police, and a USPB Customs Air Unit, Sunland Park police served the search warrant and arrest warrants early Thursday at 2065 McNutt.
A fourth suspect, Javier Tarango, 44, is wanted on an outstanding nationwide warrant for extortion, robbery, and conspiracy.
All suspects might face additional charges. The Sunland Park Police Department asks that if anyone has been victimized by these men to come forward and report it to them.
