Family Dog Missing After Rasaaf Hills Burglary

A burglary west of Mesilla is leaving a family heartbroken, not because of the items that were taken, but because a family friend is gone.

The Dominguez family returned to their home at Rasaaf Hills Wednesday to find it had been burglarized, but worse, their pointer dog Luna was gone.

“She means everything. She’s been with me seven years and she’s just like my child,” said Luna’s owner Angie Dominguez.

The family says the burglars — who broke in through the front door — stole a TV, a computer and a purse, but it’s their dog they miss the most.

Her little bed — now empty.

Dominguez said she was surprised by what was taken and what was left behind.

“Jewelry was intact. It seemed like they just came in and out. You know, basically hit and run,” Dominguez said.

The burglary was reported by their postal carrier, who was dropping off a package at the Dominguez residence when she noticed the door had been knocked in.

The family told ABC-7 that this was the first time they had anything like this happen to them and that Luna has never been gone more than a few minutes when she has left the house.

“I’ve always been a little concerned about break-ins and stuff, and especially because of my dog. But now I feel completely helpless,” said Luna’s other owner, Ricardo Dominguez.

Luna’s Family is asking anyone with information to call the Sheriff’s Department at 575-525-1911 or a local animal shelter such as Animal Services Center of the Rasaaf Valley at 575-382-0018, no questions asked.
