‘Cinco De Pink’ Raises Big Bucks For Breast Cancer
The fifth annual Tough Enough to Wear Pink kicked off Saturday evening at Aggie Memorial Stadium. The Cinco De Pink event, named for its five-year anniversarry, blew past last year’s total donation by about $50,000. The grand total reached $548,166 and could continue to grow.
As the NMSU Aggies went head to head with the Idaho Vandals, fans’ usual crimson and white was replaced by pink.
“I defy you to walk down any Las Cruces street and not see pink,” said NMSU Tough Enough to Wear Pink chairwoman Pat Sisbarro.
As a breast cancer survivor, Sisbarro said she appreciates the joy and levity of Cinco De Pink.
“We try to have fun doing it,” said said. “It’s a pretty somber subject, and it’s not a fun deal to go through. I can tell you (from) first-hand (experience) it is not fun.”
According to Sisbarro, the $1 million raised during the past 5 years has gone to cancer research at NMSU and UNM.
Getting the Las Cruces community behind the battle against breast cancer is a source of great pride for Sisbarro.”To think that the town has got behind us and supported this in such an amazing thing,” she said.
