Affidavit: Man Accused Of Impersonating Officer Strikes Student With Car
A man accused of impersonating a law enforcement officer ran over an Andress High School student with a car after the student questioned his credentials, according to an arrest affidavit.
Daniel Munoz, 23, pulled over the 19-year-old student in a school parking lot using a siren and lights. The student was exiting his vehicle and approached Munoz, who said he was a police officer and asked for identification.
The student refused to show identification and walked away. He told police that Munoz did not look like a law enforcement officer.
Munoz then followed the student in his car before getting out and confronting the student. A struggle between the two ensued, but the student was able defend himself and walk away.
That’s when Munoz got back into his car and, the affidavit stated, chased down the student and struck him with the car. The student was struck on the legs, causing him to roll over the hood and onto the windshield before falling to the ground.
The student was able to flag down an El Paso Independent School District police officer. He gave the district officer a description of Munoz’s vehicle
The district officer, who located Munoz’s car on Windsor Drive across the street from the high school, saw a police radio and siren equipment in plain view. After a search of the car, the district officer also found a Bowie knife under the driver’s seat. The student was called to identify the driver, and the district officer arrested Munoz and a passenger.
The student suffered injuries to his neck, back and arm. He was taken to Beaumont Army Medical Center
Munoz was arrested on suspicion of impersonating a public servant, possession of weapons where prohibited, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
According to the arrest affidavit, the incident was captured on the school’s security surveillance cameras.
