Police Seek Gunman Who Tried To Abduct Jogger
Las Cruces Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of a armed man who attempted to abduct a woman at gunpoint Saturday morning.
Shortly after 11 a.m. Saturday, a woman was jogging south on the walking trail parallel to Triviz Drive when a newer-model car pulled up along side her. The driver of the car asked the woman for directions to New Mexico State University and then pulled out a black handgun and ordered her into the vehicle.
The woman disregarded the man’s orders and ran away. The vehicle sped away heading north from Spruce Avenue. No injuries were reported.
The vehicle was described as a sports car. The driver was described as a white male in his mid-30s. He has short, shaved, hair and was wearing glasses.
In a news release issued Tuesday, the Las Cruces Police Department said it encourages pedestrians to remain observant at all times and suggests taking part in outdoor activities with a partner or small group. Pedestrians and joggers are also encouraged to have a cellphone readily available in case help is needed, and they should refrain from using ear or headphones as those devices may impede the user’s ability of hearing someone who is approaching.
If you have any information on the attempted abduction, you are asked to call Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or send a tip via text message to LCTIPS (528477). The Crime Stoppers number and text messaging services are operational 24 hours a day and you do not have to give your name to collect a reward.
