Smile, ‘Operation Sweet Tooth’ Candy Buy-Back Returns
Starting Tuesday, El Paso children can trade all the candy they collected during Halloween for some cash and a healthy smile.
Operation Sweet Tooth, which last year collected 385 pounds candy for the Warriors in Transition Unit at Fort Bliss, is back with the goal of beating last year’s collection and fighting too decay.
Dentist Dr. Paul Ro and Fort Bliss’ USO will team up again to encourage healthy lifestyles and the spirit of giving in El Paso children, while providing a much-needed morale boost for our troops.
“Every year Operation Sweet Tooth experiences growth, and I’m impressed by the selflessness of El Paso’s kids who give up their treats for our troops and a healthier lifestyle. What’s even more impressive is that the candy doesn’t just come from El Paso; we’ve gotten candy deliveries from as far as Boston,” Ro said.
As part of Operation Sweet Tooth, children can take their Halloween candy to Eastside Dental Care between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday through Nov. 15. Ro will pay $1 for ever pound of individually wrapped candy, which goes to the USO to give to troops at Fort Bliss. Children can keep the money or donate it back to the USO if they choose.
Students from Schuster Elementary School are stepping up the effort by collecting candy as part of a schoolwide competition to see who can collect the most candy.
