Woman Killed After Car Plunges Into Drainage Ditch

A woman was killed after she crashed into a drainage ditch in San Elizario, according to a spokeswoman with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

The wreck happened at about 3:20 Thursday morning on the 700 block of Thompson near Socorro Rd. It is unclear how long the car was in the canal before it was discovered.

A tow truck managed to remove the car from the drainage ditch at around 10:00 a.m. The woman’s body was still in the car.

The Sheriff’s Office confirms speed was a factor. “We urge citizens of the county and anyone driving through the roadway to use precaution especially at night because there are no signs or any guardrails,” said spokeswoman Angelica Becerra.

Becerra says there have been a number of wrecks along that stretch of road on Thompson Rd.

Investigators are still working to identify the vicitm.
