Sprint Offers Free Wireless Service To Eligible Veterans In Need

Assurance Wireless gives eligible residents and veterans the ability to provide a contact number and return calls to prospective employers which, can help secure a job.

Veterans going through tough financial times, or struggling to find a job in several states, can apply to receive a free wireless phone, 250 free voice minutes per month with call waiting, a voice mail account, caller ID and access to 911 in case of emergency.

Citing a recent report from the Labor Department, Jack Pflanz, a public relations manager for Sprint, said veterans who left military service in the past decade have an unemployment rate of 11.7 percent, well above the overall jobless rate of 9.1 percent for the entire country.

The Assurance Wireless was started to give eligible veterans the ability to provide a contact number and return calls to prospective employers which, can help secure a job.

Eligibility for Assurance Wireless varies by state and may include those who participate in Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP or food stamps), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA or Section 8), Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) or the National School Lunch Program?s Free Lunch Program. Customers may also qualify based on low household income on a state by state basis as well.

For those who don’t qualify for Assurance Wireless, Virgin Mobile announces its payLo program, which offer discounted wireless prices. PayLo is available at more than 40,000 retail stores, including Best Buy, RadioShack and Target.
