7 ‘Occupy El Paso’ Protesters Arrested

Occupy El Paso protestors returned to San Jacinto Plaza early Tuesday, and so did El Paso police.

Instead of handing out citations as they did Monday, police made arrests this time.

ABC-7 was the only station there with round the clock coverage as four police vehicles and 10 police officers arrived about 3:15 this morning. Seven protestors were taken into custody for being at the park after the closing time of 1 a.m. and refusing to leave. We have confirmed with police that three of the seven have been booked into the county jail so far.

Organizers said they plan on continuing to meeting every night at 6 p.m. at San Jacinto Plaza. We will continue to check if protestors stay after park closing time and if any more arrests are made.

Those arrested were: Nubia Legarda, 22, of the 3700 block of Truman Avenue; Alvaro Mazuca, 26, of the 6300 block of Pascal; Mario Olivares, 20, of the 400 block of West Yandell Drive; Babak Tavakoli, 18, of the 6000 block of Los Pueblos Drive; Barnabas Vaughn, 26, of the 1100 block of Sharon Drive; Armand Valleverde, 19, of the 2300 block Kansas Street; and 47-year-old Lee Roy Stewart.
