EPPD: Man Driving With Child On His Lap Charged With 3rd DWI

El Paso police tell ABC-7 they arrested a 27-year-old man that was seen driving a truck with a small child in his lap.

The suspect, Jose Pena, was also charged with his 3rd DWI.

Investigators said it began with a domestic disturbance call around 7:30 p.m. Friday on the 10600 block of Islerock Drive in East El Paso.

Officers said they were told Pena, who was involved in the dispute and had been drinking, took off with the child in a blue Ford F-150.

The truck was pulled over nearby and Pena was arrested. The child was turned over its mother, according to police.

Investigators said Pena was convicted of DWI twice in 2010. They said he also had several outstanding warrants.

He was charged with DWI: 3 or More Convictions and Endangering a Child, and booked into the El Paso County jail on bonds totaling $21,000.
