ABC-7 Tours New El Paso Children’s Hospital
El Paso Children’s Hospital is several weeks away from its mid-February opening, but ABC-7 got an exclusive preview of the $120 million facility during a tour Wednesday.
“This is the largest city in the country without a dedicated, separately licensed children’s hospital,” said Chief Executive Officer Larry Duncan. “That’s unconscionable.”
The hospital’s building shares some floors with University Medical Center, but the top five floors all belong exclusively to El Paso Children’s Hospital. It will open with 122 beds and extra room to accomodate 148 if necessary.
Duncan said hospital officials have recruited more than a dozen physicians to staff the facility, with several more in the negotiation process.
“What’s selling us more than anything else is the fact that it’s a brand-new children’s hospital with a new medical school, as well. Not a lot of people have the opportunity to be part of that,” said Duncan.
