Man Arrested On Suspicion Of DWI With Child In Backseat

The El Paso Police Department said officers stopped a man on Friday for a traffic violation and later arrested him on suspicion of DWI, all while a small child was in the backseat of the car.

Officers stopped Jorge Chavira on the 9500 block of McCombs Street after police said he ran a red light. Further investigation by police revealed Chavira was suspected of being drunk.

Police also found a child in a front-facing car seat, which was improperly secured, in the back of the vehicle.

The child was found to be in good condition and is now in the custody of a responsible adult, according to police.

Chavira was arrested for DWI and booked into the El Paso County Jail on a $4,500 bond.
