El Paso Electric Ranks High On Texas Reliability Lists

El Paso Electric ranks No. 1 on two lists in Texas that ranks the reliability of utilities.

The System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) and the System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI) are reliability indices compiled by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT).

The SAIDI measurement rates the duration of outages while the SAIFI measurement measures the frequency of outages. The PUCT tracks the SAIDI and SAIFI of all investor-owned electric utilities operating in Texas, a total of 10.

During 2011, El Paso Electric’s (EPE) SAIDI and SAIFI ratings were the best in Texas.

“Providing safe and reliable electrical service to our customers is our number one priority,” said Hector Puente, senior vice president of Operations at EPE. “We ask our transmission and distribution employees who are responsible for the daily operation of the electrical system to respond to any outage by evaluating the outage as quickly as possible, isolate the issue, and then make the necessary repairs in order to get our customers back on line. I think it should be noted that while we ask employees to think and respond quickly, more than anything else, we want them to accomplish their work in a safe manner. At the end of the workday, we want everyone to go home to their loved ones.”

El Paso Electric reliability rankings since 2007: -2007 – No. 1 in SAIFI and No. 1 in SAIDI -2008 – No. 3 in SAIFI and No. 2 in SAIDI -2009 – No. 1 in SAIFI and No. 2 in SAIDI -2010 – No. 1 in SAIFI and No. 2 in SAIDI -2011 – No. 1 in SAIFI and No. 1 in SAIDI
