DEVELOPING: Sheriff’s Deputy Struck By Car Shoots Man

A sheriff’s deputy shot and wounded a man after the deputy was struck by a car near Horizon City late Thursday, authorities say.

An El Paso County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said deputies were patrolling the area when they came across several cars in the area just before midnight near Berryville and Nayarit.

Sheriff’s Spokeswoman Chris Acosta said that when when deputies arrived, several cars took off. An unidentified deputy was hit by one of the fleeing cars. The deputy then opened fire and struck one of the a man inside one of the cars, Acosta added.

The man was seriously wounded and he was taken to a nearby hospital. The deputy hit by the car was treated for injuries that were not considered serious.
