Krystal Klei, Meteorologist/Reporter

Meteorologist Krystal Klei joined the ABC-7 StormTRACK Weather Team in July 2012.

She was born and raised in Gilbert, Arizona, where she grew accustomed to triple digit temperatures. As a way to cope with the heat, Krystal became an avid swimmer at a young age and continued swimming through high school. Of course, the only thing she enjoyed more than swimming was watching the incredible monsoon storms that rolled through each summer.

By college, Krystal knew she wanted to become a meteorologist. She graduated from Arizona State University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography- Meteorology/Climatology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Mass Communications.

During her time in college, she participated in three internships. First with The Arizona Republic, where she wrote the daily weather story and covered breaking news. Next, Krystal interned at ABC15 in Phoenix as both a weather intern and news intern. During her senior year, Krystal joined ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications’ award-winning student-produced newscast, Cronkite NewsWatch. She was a meteorologist and reporter for the show, which aired live Monday through Thursday on PBS World. Throughout the year, Krystal won feature reporting awards from the Broadcast Education Association, Society of Professional Journalists, and the Hearst Journalism Awards Program.

In her spare time, Krystal loves to swim, hike, go to the movies, and keep in touch with family and friends. Her parents and younger brother all remain in Phoenix.

If you have an awesome weather photo or story idea (or even a hiking trail you recommend), Krystal wants you to send them her way! Email her at Krystal.Klei@Kvia.com or tweet her @KrystalKlei.
