El Paso Girls Teams Hoop-It-Up In Playoffs
Out of the seven 5A & 4A El Paso-area teams that advanced to the “area round” of the girls basketball state playoffs, only two survived: Hanks and Bel Air.
On Friday night, the Lady Knights, who finished district play with an undefeated 16-0 record, cruised past Lubbock Monterey witha 65-42 victory in Pecos, Texas. Meanwhile, at the 5A level, Eastwood fell to Arlington Bowie 61-31. Had the Troopers walked away with a victory, they would have matched up against Bel Air in an all-El Paso regional quarterfinal.
Also in 5A, Franklin was blown out 72-45 against Southlake Carroll in Big Spring, Texas. One of the biggest shockers of the night came in Roswell, New Mexico, where El Paso’s #1 ranked team, Chapin, fell to Canyon 38-29. The Huskies blew a third quarter lead and were held to only nine points in the entire second half. In Monahans, San Elizario lost big to Canyon 38-29 in 4A action. An, in Odessa, Andress got blown out against Amarillo Paolo Duro.
