Hamilton Wants Out

The UTEP men’s basketball team suffered another blow to their top-25 recruiting class Saturday night.

The Los Angeles Times reports that shooting guard Isaac Hamilton has asked to decommit from his National Letter of Intent to UTEP. UTEP head coach Tim Floyd said that Hamilton, who wants to be closer to his ill grandmother, plans to sign with the USC.

Floyd told the LA Times that UTEP has denied Hamilton’s request, but that Hamilton is appealing the decision to the National Letter of Intent Steering Committee.

“If this appeal is allowed, we might as well not have letters of intent,” Floyd is stated saying in the L.A. Times article.

On July 11 Hamilton said via Twitter, “To all UTEP fans my grandmother is ill, and I’m dealing with a death in the family that’s why I haven’t made it yet.”

Hamilton’s departure will be the school’s second lost recruit this week. Shooting guard Andre Spight is transferring to a junior college because he was unable to academically qualify for the upcoming basketball season.

Hamilton was a McDonald’s All-American, and was ranked as five-star recruit by rivals.com.
