Mayfield Advances, Centennial Stumbles

The Mayfield Trojans are one step closer to a state title. Friday night at the Field of Dreams, the Trojans knocked of Rio Rancho 45-24 to advance to the 5A NM State Semifinals.

Mayfield got a scare in the second half when QB Kavika Johnson was taken out of the game with an injury, but told ABC-7’s David Concha afterwards he should be ready for the next game.

The Trojans will next face the winner of Cleveland and Hobbs when their game is made up Monday. Their game was delayed to poor weather in Rio Rancho.

In 4A action, the Centennial Hawks did not have the same luck. Los Lunas crushed the Hawks on their home field 51-10. Centennial ends the year at 9-3, and won the school’s first district title in football, in only its second year of existence.
