City Rep. Eddie Holguin Jr. not running for mayor
City Rep. Eddie Holguin Jr. over the weekend ended speculation that he would be running for mayor of El Paso.
“I want to let all my friends and constituents know that I am fully committed to completing my current term as Representative for District #6,” Holguin said in a statement on his Facebook page. ” I have no desire, nor intention to seek the Office of Mayor of El Paso.”
The Facebook posting was first reported by the Lionstar Blog.
“The bond indebtedness was passed by my constituents,” Holguin said in the Facebook posting. “Therefore, despite my warnings and objections and my real fear the city will face serious financial challenges in the near future, I will represent my constituents and fight for their fair share of those amenities. Constituents have spoken loud and clear; they don’t mind bind taxed in exchange for those goodies. So be it.”
City Rep. Steve Ortega announced he was running for mayor last week.
“.. I have worked well with Rep. Ortega,” Holguin said in his Facebook post. “There is no question we have completely different and diametrically opposed views regarding what is best for the city. I do not believe massive debt is good for the city’s taxpayers.”
No one else has officially thrown their name in the ring. City Rep. Emma Acosta told ABC-7 she’s considering it and has set up an exploratory committee. She said she will make a decision by the end of the month.
