Car crash causes power outage

El Paso Electric Company crews confirmed with ABC-7 that an early-morning car crash knocked out power to parts of West El Paso and southern New Mexico.

ABC-7 caught up with crews fixing a power pole on Airport Road in Santa Teresa, NM, west of Santa Teresa High School, around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday. A worker said a car had crashed into a pole. The area affected extended as far north as Artcraft Road and south as Country Club Road.

At 6:25 a.m., electric crews returned to the area to replace the pole that was downed by the crash. Power was restored by 7:30 a.m. to the high school and the surrounding neighborhoods.

Doa Ana County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the crash. Deputies on the scene, as well as the emergency dispatcher for Doa Ana County, referred ABC-7 to the public information officer as to the cause of the crash, the severity of the wreck, and the number of people involved, as well as any injuries they may have sustained. At the time this article was published, the PIO has not returned ABC-7’s calls for information.
