Construction worker killed in wreck on I-10

A construction worker was killed just before midnight after being hit by a van on I-10.

The crash happened on the westbound lanes just before the Artcraft exit.

According to El Paso Police on the scene, construction crews were working overnight to repave the outside lanes when a man driving a minivan was involved in an accident with a woman driving a car.

According to the woman, the man over-corrected after hitting her and veered into the construction area, hitting two workers before smashing into a construction vehicle.

Police said one of the workers hit was taken to University Medical Center, and underwent surgery before dying.

Police said the other worker who was hit is expected to be okay.

No charges have been filed at this time.

The westbound lanes of I-10 were shut down till about 5 a.m., when one lane was reopened.
