Rallies against gun control laws held in Austin, Santa Fe
Gun right advocates in Texas and New Mexico gathered at their respective Capitols Saturday.
Rallies were held across the United States as part of a loosely organized campaign by gun rights advocates. The campaign began via social media.
According to KOB-TV a local organizers in Santa Fe, Josh Kennedy, says the group is against a proposed ban on assault-rifles. He also said the rally is attempting to show residents that gun owners aren’t criminals.
A similar event was scheduled on the steps of the Capitol in Austin.
Among those scheduled to attend wasfirst-term Rep. Steve Toth, a Republican from the Woodlands.
Toth previously introduced a bill seeking to ban any federal prohibition on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines on a state level.
People began confirming that they would attend the Austin event several days ago. Some attendees have been encouraged to bring their guns to the rally.
