Ysleta ISD raises tax rate; second highest in county

The Ysleta Independent School District raised its tax rate from $1.33 per $100 of home valuation to $1.36Wednesday night.

YISD has the second highest rate in the county. Canutillo ISD, with a tax rate of $1.46 per $100 of home valuation, attributes the district’s high tax rate to the issuance of bonds and tax ratification elections in 2011. El Paso ISD attributes its low tax rate to its low debt level.

Ysleta Associate Superintendent of Finance Rolyne Kafka said YISD’s rate is actually lower when you take the $20,000 Homestead Credit into consideration. Kafka said it goes down to about $1.09 per $100 of home valuation.
