Another round of strong winds to hit Sunday

A StormTRACK Weather First Alert is in effect through Sunday, thanks to high winds, a slight chance of rain, and cooler air moving into the region.

The passage of a cold front between noon and 1 p.m. over the Borderland is forecast.

Along with the front, winds will jump to 20-30 mph. Winds will gust to 50 mph around the region, with Eastern mountain slope areas seeing gusts push towards 60 mph. Blowing dust and sand may become an issue in the mid-afternoon.

The winds are forecast to peak from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., but will continue into the overnight hours.

A high wind warning is in effect for the Eastern slopes of the Sacs, Fanklins, and Organs.

Along the front, clouds will build over the region. This will also bring a chance of rain, although slight, to the lowlands. The chance is around 10 percent.

Higher elevations around Silver City saw light snow Sunday morning. Between 2-4 inches may fall. The Sacramento Mountains also have a chance at snow. From 1-3 inches are forecast to fall with the front. Snow over that mountain range will last into the late night hours.

Highs for today will hit early in the afternoon, and temperatures will begin cooling after the front passes. Highs are forecast in the mid to low 50’s around the region.

Overnight the temperatures will drop below freezing, near or below 30 degrees in the lowlands.

Tomorrow temperatures will be well below normal. A high of 51 is forecast for El Paso. The average is 65 degrees.
