Fort Bliss soldier dies from IED explosion in Afghanistan

A Fort Bliss soldier was killed in Afghanistan on June 27, according to the Department of Defense.

Sgt. James L. Skalberg Jr., 25, of Cullman, Ala., was assigned to 4th Battalion, 1st Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss.

He and another soldier assigned to a post in Germany were killed in Maidan Shahr, Wardak province of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device.
