El Paso Sheriff’s officials say alcohol, speed factors in July fatal rollover

El Paso County Sheriff’s officials say that alcohol and speed were factors in a single-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of the driver in mid-July.

Benjamin Alberto Blanco was driving a 2006 Nissan Titan at 11:40 a.m. July 15 on Interstate 10 East of mile marker 50 when he rolled over his vehicle and it was found in the dirt median.

Investigators said Blanco, who was wearing a seatbelt, was traveling in the left lane when he attempted to switch lanes from left to right as he approached a curve.

Blanco drove off the roadway and onto the shoulder. He then overcorrected and caused the vehicle to spin counter clockwise and go across the roadway into the dirt median, rolling several times and came to a rest in the dirt median near the westbound lanes of I-10
