Update: SWAT, Bomb Squad respond to central El Paso neighborhood

The EL Paso Police SWAT team blocked off a section of a central El Paso neighborhood Wednesday morning.

EPPD Spokesman Darrel Petry told ABC-7 police are investigating reports of criminal mischief. It is unclear what the threat was near the corner of Nations Ave. and Raynor St. Petry said investigators located a device outside of a home. It was suspected to be an explosive device, and the bomb squad was called in.

A man who said he lived in the neighborhood told ABC-7 he heard a loud “pop” at around 3:30 a.m. Another man said he saw nails and debris underneath his car.

Nations Ave. was blocked between San Marcial St. and Copia St. for nearly five hours. No one was injured and there was no damage to property, Petry said.
