Early morning fire displaces family

The Las Cruces Fire Department responded toa residential structure onthe 200 block of Cinnabar Lane for a structure fireat 4:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The first arriving fire crew reported heavy fire and smoke coming from a kitchen window of a doublewide mobile home. The fire was contained within 10 minutes after initial arrival.

A family of three lives at the residence but only one person was home at the time of the fire. The resident reported that he attempted to put the fire out himself before he evacuated.

The mobile home suffered heavy fire damage in the kitchen and smoke damage throughout.Fire Investigators stated that the fire originated in the kitchen; the cause is still being investigated. The initial damage estimate is approximately $65,000.

The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family. LCPD was also on scene.

There were no reports of civilian or firefighter injuries.
