Fifth Socorro Police officer arrested
(Nov. 2012 story)
Socorro Police Officer Bobby Correa turned himself into detectives with the White Collar Crimes Unit of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office on two counts of Tampering with a Government Record with a total bond of $30,000.
Correa was taken into custody without incident and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.
A criminal complaint obtained by ABC-7 describing the charges against two detectives and two supervisors in Socorro also mentions Correa.
The complaint written by a Texas Ranger says that Correa was present when a sergeant tried to tell a supervisor, Lt. Jose Alvarez, that an officer being accused of failing to follow protocol and notify his superiors did actually tell his supervisor of an incident.
According to the complaint, Alvarez told that supervisor “no, you are going to shut up, sit there and just listen.”
The document says Correa “would have had pertinent information regarding the allegations against (Mario) Rodriguez),” though Alvarez failed to investigate properly.
Alvarez is charged with official oppression.
