Team From Border Southwest Reaches Finals Of Softball Little League World Series
A team from the borderland southwest is headed to the championship game of the Softball Little League World Series. The group of 11 & 12 year olds from Sunnyside Little League of Tucson, Arizona beat Puerto Rico 10-0 off the mercy rule.
The win allowed the team from Tucson’s south side to advance to Wednesday’s championship game. It will also be aired on national TV: ESPN2 at 6 p.m. West-coast time.
Viviana Orantez went 3 for 3 for the group of youngsters from Tucson, Arizona. On the mound, Jasmine Ayala and Yannira Acuna combined for a no-hitter in four innings (after the 10-run mercy rule). Sunnyside Little League will battle it out with Virginia in the championship game Wednesday night.
The coaches include Manuel Tapia, Sam Gutierrez and Rene Ayala. Players representing Sunnyside include: Alexis Anderson, Aracely Gutierrez, Yannira Acuna, Alyssa Ortiz, Jazmine Ayala, Angel Sallas, Viviana Orantez, Alex Tapia, Destyni Payan, Jaylen Marquez, Zuleika Barnett, Danitza Aguirre, Arlett Arreola.
