12-12-12: Borderland residents celebrate

A day celebrated by the superstitious and those who believe in luck.

Wednesday marked December 12, 2012 or ‘ 12-12-12 ‘.

The date is said to be a lucky number, and numerologists have said 12 represents new beginnings.

That may have been why Ruben Escandon was a busy man Wednesday . Escandon is an ordained minister at ‘From This Moment’ chapel is central El Paso.

In anticipation of the date, Escandon cleared his schedule to conduct as many ceremonies as possible.

Nearly 10 wedding ceremonies were on his schedule for Wednesday .

At Providence Memorial Hospital, Erica Magallanes gave birth to Addisyn Soto. She was one of the first babies born on 12-12-12 at the west El Paso hospital.

“I really didn’t think about the date until someone told me,” said Magallanes.

Magallanes and her boyfriend Alex Soto say their luck is off to a great start.

“I’m not a superstitious person, but everyone keeps telling she is a lucky baby. So, hopefully she brings me luck, we’ll see,” said Soto.

ABC-7 made a call to area hospitals, and estimated 26 babies were born on 12-12-12.

The next triple number date won’t come around for another 89 years.
