Chihuahuas Fall 7-3

Gary Brown’s inside-the-park home run in the fourth inning put the Fresno Grizzlies ahead to stay in their 7-3 victory over the El Paso Chihuahuas Tuesday at Southwest University Park. Brown hit a deep fly ball down the left field line and El Paso left fielder Reymond Fuentes tried to make a leaping catch. The ball hit the 24-foot tall left field fence and ricocheted toward left-center field, allowing Brown time to score without a play at the plate.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, Jeff Francoeur’s RBI fielder’s choice plated the tying run in the bottom of the first. The Chihuahuas strung together five hits in the third inning, scoring twice to take a 3-1 lead. Brown’s inside-the-park home run was part of a five run fourth for the Grizzlies, who also added a run in the fifth inning. Neither team scored from the sixth inning on.

The Chihuahuas have had leads in each of their past seven losses. Cody Decker went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in the losing effort for El Paso.
