El Paso Still Winless At New Home
The El Paso Chihuahuas scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning but left two runners on base and fell short in their 6-5 loss to the Fresno Grizzlies Wednesday afternoon at Southwest University Park. Fresno has won the first three games of the four game series.
The Grizzlies broke a 0-0 tie in the top of the fifth inning when they sent eight batters to the plate and scored four runs. The Chihuahuas climbed back into the game with two seventh inning runs on Tyler Greene’s RBI double and a wild pitch by Fresno reliever Mason Tobin. The Chihuahuas got within one run in the eighth on a pinch-hit, RBI single by El Paso pitcher Jason Lane.
After two insurance runs by Fresno in the top of the ninth, the Chihuahuas got within one on RBI hits by Kyle Blanks and relief pitcher Tony Sipp. It was Sipp’s first career hit and RBI. Heath Hembree struck out Jason Lane with two runners on base to end the game and pick up his fifth save of the season.
El Paso manager Pat Murphy was ejected in the bottom of the eighth inning for arguing a called third strike.
