Borderland graduation ceremonies begin Friday

It will be a busy weekend for soon-to-be graduates and families of three area colleges and universities.

Texas Tech, El Paso Community College and the University of Texas at El Paso will hold their spring commencement ceremonies.

Texas Tech Paul L. Foster School of Medicine Spring Commencement is Friday at 6pm at the Plaza Theatre.

EPCC will have two commencement ceremonies:

2pm- Associate of Science, Applied Science and Certificate of Completion

6pm- Associate of Arts

Both ceremonies will be held at the Don Haskins Center.

As UTEP continues to celebrate its 100th birthday, it will hold one big ceremony Saturday evening at the Sun Bowl.

Typically, commencement is divided into three different ceremonies.

The last time UTEP held a graduation at the Sun Bowl was 1998 when it marked its 100th commencement.

This year is the university’s 132nd graduation ceremony and also the largest graduating class in school history.

More than 2,800 students will receive their diplomas this weekend.

The commencement ceremony begins at 7pm, doors open at 5:30pm.

The UTEP Centennial Commencement will conclude with a fireworks display.
