El Paso Exploreum opens Saturday

A new type of museum is opening in El Paso this Saturday.

The El Paso Exploreum will be the first dedicated to children in the city.

Exploreum is presented by the Lynx Exhibits, and is located next to the old Lynx location.

Opening day kicks off at 10 a.m., and will include prizes, activities, food, costumed characters and a jumping balloon.

The museum will include a variety of interactive exhibits.

One area will focus on technology, and containing a touch screen table and interactive floor.

Another will focus on aviation, and give children a chance to make helicopters.

An Old West Village will allow children to play in a grocery store, a schoolhouse and a bank.

Finally, a traveling exhibit called “Tech City” will be displayed.

The exhibit comes from the Science Center in Ithaca, N.Y.

It focuses on real-world engineering problems, giving children a chance to work on bridge and structure development.

Unlike the former Lynx Exhibit, Exploreum is a non-profit organization.

Laurie Paternoster, the co-founder, said this means they will be able to donate their exhibits to the city of El Paso’s Children’s Museum once constructed.

“Our hope is that in the next three to five years, while the city is building the permanent children’s museum, we will be a great laboratory for people to come in and out, and say this is what we really want in our museum,” Paternoster said.

For that reason, Exploreum is calling itself a “living laboratory” where people may voice their opinion on what they’d like to see more of in the future.

On opening day, tickets will cost $6.

After that, tickets will cost $8 for all ages, with a $2 discount for seniors, active military, and educators.

Infants are free to enter. Every third Tuesday of the month, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.entrancewill be free.

The Exploreum will be open seven days a week.
