Tax-free weekend August 8-10 in Texas

Texas shoppers are taking advantage of Tax-free Weekend through out the state.

It comes with perfect timing that families are also looking for the best bargains for the back-to-school essentials.

The sales tax holiday exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100 from sales and use taxes. For every $100 spent, shoppers save about $8.

The average family is expected to spend almost $670 dollars this year in back to school supplies.

Malls and department stores will be flooded with families looking to save a buck. The city’s two largest malls are extending its hours during Tax-free Weekend.

Below are the extended hours for both Cielo Vista Mall and Sunland Park Mall:

Friday, August 8, 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Saturday, August 9, 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Sunday, August 10, 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.

This weekend also attracts thousands of shoppers from New Mexico and Mexico.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection reminds all travelers to to keep in mind several tips to help expedite bridge wait times at ports of entry.

CBP asks commuter to be ready for inspection and have all crossing documents on-hand.

Travelers should use Ready Lanes if they have the proper documentation and make sure all items are declared.

Tax-free weekend runs from Friday, August 8 through Sunday, August 10.
