UTEP Athletic Director Bob Stull accepts Ice Bucket Challenge
Quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning have done it. So have Coach Rex Ryan and the New York Jets. Now UTEP Athletic Director Bob Stull is going for the ice bucket challenge, too.
Stull was challenged by Louisiana Monroe Director of Athletics Brian Wickstrom, who was UTEP’s senior associate athletic director under Stull up until 2011.
“I’m happy to participate,” Stull said in a statement. “A man I worked with for many years, Ray Dorr, was afflicted with ALS while he was the quarterbacks coach at Texas A&M and passed away in 2001. He was a great coach and an even better person. This campaign has been absolutely tremendous in creating awareness for this horrible disease.”
The challenge, a social media phenomenon, is part of a program launched by the ALS Association to raise money for fighting ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Participants challenge others on video to do it or donate money to ALS before dumping ice cold water over their heads.
Stull will have a bucket of ice water poured on his head following the Miner football team’s practice Saturday at Glory Field, around 10 a.m.
He will likely not be the last Miner to accept the challenge.
“I plan to challenge football coach Sean Kugler tomorrow,” Stull said.
UTEP said Miner women’s basketball coach Keitha Adams, softball coach Tobin Echo-Hawk and volleyball coach Holly Watts, along with her team, have already accepted the challenge, said the university.
The ALS Foundation reports raising $4 million since July 29 thanks to the Ice Bucket Challenge.
