MountainStar Sports group announces launch of bid for Major League Soccer
MountainStar Sports group, owner of the Triple-A baseball team El Paso Chihuahuas, will officially announce the launch of a campaign for Major League Soccer in El Paso in a media-only event, according to a press release from the company.
The formal announcement will be held at Southwest University Park. Check back with ABC-7 on air and online with the latest from the announcement.
MountainStar Sports Group announced in mid-June that they have had “preliminary and positive discussions” with MLS about El Paso getting an expansion team.
There could be stiff competition for any future MLS teams. Minnesota is positioning itself for a bit to take it’s team to the majors, and San Antonio, Sacramento and Las Vegas have all made similar efforts.
