NMSU President Garrey Carruthers has said he would like the new athletic director to start as soon as Jan. 1, 2015.

The contract of NMSU’s current athletic director, McKinley Boston, was extended this past summer until Dec. 31.

“Dr. Boston has done a fine job in leading our athletics department over the past 10 years,” Carruthers said in August. “I am most pleased with his attention to academics and the development of support groups for our student athletes during his time at NMSU.”
