City Rep. Eddie Holguin won’t run for his seat in special election
Dist. 6 City Rep. Eddie Holguin Jr. is returning to private life come this summer.
Holguin unsuccessfully ran for El Paso County Judge in March, which forced him to resign his City Council seat.
He could run in the July 19 special election to fill his seat, but he told ABC-7 he isn’t running.
“My term ends in July,” Holguin told ABC-7. “After that I plan to return to the private sector. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about my district and my constituents.”
Holguin was a vocal opponent of the Downtown ballpark.
ABC-7 asked him if he will attend opening day on Monday, or any games at Southwest University Park.
“I do not plan to go to the opening game and I do not plan to go to games there,” Holguin said. “To me, it’s a project that probably could have been built anywhere else in the city for less than half of the cost. They chose to demolish a building at a greater cost, displace thousands of people who work downtown and they’re going to be causing a headache for people who live in the area.”
