Van de Putte starts bus tour in lt. gov. campaign

Democrat Leticia Van de Putte is beginning a nine-day bus tour to bring attention to her campaign for lieutenant governor.

The San Antonio senator scheduled a rally for Sunday afternoon, with her first stop scheduled for Alice, near Corpus Christi.

Van de Putte ran unchallenged for the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor. She will face either Dan Patrick or incumbent Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst in November.

The Hispanic pharmacist from San Antonio is a close ally of Wendy Davis, the Democratic candidate for governor. She has chaired the Texas Senate’s Military Affairs Committee and been a strong advocate of more affordable and accessible health care.

This is the first time in Texas history where one party has nominated women for both of the state’s top jobs.
