Groundbreaking ceremony Thursday morning for new hospital
UPDATE: A groundbreaking ceremony will be held Thursday morning to mark the construction of a new teaching hospital and medical office building in northwest El Paso.
The ceremony begins at 11am at Resler and Transmountain Rd. That is where the multi-million dollar building will go up.

Sciences Center at El Paso will be building a multi-million dollar teaching hospital in Northwest El Paso.
The two entities will be working with Medistar Corporation on the 110,000 square foot medical office building at the intersection of Resler Drive and Trans Mountain.
The hospital will have up to 140 beds and will operate as part of the Sierra Providence Health Network (SPHN), Tenet’s system of hospitals and outpatient centers in El Paso.
The hospital also will serve as a teaching hospital for medical students, nursing students, resident physicians and faculty from TTUHSC’s Paul L. Foster School of
Medicine.
It will eventually offer training for about 75 medical residents across a multi-year program.
“All great medical schools provide their students experiences at multiple hospital settings,” Jose Manuel de la Rosa, M.D., founding dean of the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine and vice president for health affairs, TTUHSC at El Paso, said in a statement. “Our new affiliation with Sierra-Providence will allow our students to learn in a state-of-the-art community based hospital while meeting the needs of our growing student body as well as our accreditation requirements for expanding class sizes.”
Construction on the hospital is scheduled to begin in fall 2014 and be completed in the fall of 2016.
