The Texas Attorney General’s Office is accusing four El Paso firms for alleged deceptive trade practices.
According to court documents, the businesses charged clients hundreds of dollars to prepare legal documents, including divorce filings, deed transfers, child support and immigration proceedings.
All this despite not being authorized to provide those legal services.
The state seeks temporary and permanent injunctions against the following businesses:
International Legal Services-Abogados
Tiny’s Para-legal Services Jeff Smith Agency Unidad Immigrant Advocacy center
The business owners face a fine of up to $20,000 per violation.
There is concern for people who sought these services.
A spokeswoman for the Texas Attorney General’s Office tells ABC-7 the repercussions could be as serious as deportation.
In many cases, paperwork was never filed, so the AG’s office tells ABC-7 clients in cases like lose money and miss important deadlines.
